Isaac Doesn't Seem To Worry Many In Carrollwood On Sunday Morning

Few residents were outside on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, traffic along north Dale Mabry moved at a slow clip under a cloudy sky. A handful of cars peppered gas stations along the busy corridor, and patrons at local stores like Publix and Home Depot pushed half empty carts through scarcely populated parking lots.

While the National Weather Service predicts Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to move near the Florida Keys today and over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by early Monday, the threat of high winds and heavy rain didn't phase Darrin West, a Palm Harbor resident shopping for paint at Home Depot on Sunday.

"This story is gonna be nothing," West said in the parking lot of the store at 16121 N. Dale Mabry. "'I've been through (Hurricanes) Andrew and Jeanne."

Store shelves remained stocked with storm supplies like plywood and bottled water, according to a Home Depot representative, but batteries were running low. At Publix, 13178 N. Dale Mabry, the water supply hadn't waned.

West, a painter, said Tampa Bay residents who were cautiously purchasing storm supplies over the weekend should stay calm.

"People are in panic mode," he said. "We'll be fine."
