How Money Works

Insurance agent and entrepreneur Dawn Hudson shares tips about How Money Works from her blog, Diary of an Insurance Girl.

Hello Patch-ers.

Starting at the beginning

In 1972, I decided I wasn't going to get married until I was 30.  When I was 40 years old, the opportunity came along.  Holy cow.  Don't do that math.  And so, for a long time, I have been an independent thinker and doer.  By choice and by necessity.

About Dawn Hudson

I grabbed a degree from Florida State University and applied it to everyday business. Gasoline was $.32 a gallon. Then-Pres. Reagan handled everything Hollywood-style.  It was well before stringers crawled the bottom of every TV news show, 24/7.  It was OK for a 20-something college girl to hitch-hike home to Ft. Lauderdale from Tallahassee.  It was 1973-1982.

I loved business. Then, I found love.

I launched a chain of package shipping shops, and in those 1980-90's "glory days," I built 100 of them across Florida.  With time to spare, in my single-and-loving-it life, I was a part of a team building small IPO's (public stock offerings) during the penny stock era.

Credentials pile up!

Then came a career in the nursery business and Florida's fabulous green industry. And, gigs as a spokeswoman, a publicist, a banker and several leadership roles with Tampa not-for-profits.

Hey, Dawn... back to the future!

I am a writer-journalist and a blogger.  I love the business of business, and I am passionate about neighborhoods and networking.

And today, I am an insurance agent licensed by the state of Florida to sell life, health, disability and fixed annuities products. You might be surprised at the enormous amount of compliance, paperwork and learning that goes into being your insurance agent and staying hip in the insurance business.

Dawn's formula: If marriage = 30; then retirement = 60

Putting all of the above... into the blender of life, I realize that HEALTH is the most important thing, and MONEY becomes a real worry (foreclosures, jobs, the stock market, retirement dream) as it comes -- and -- goes, until I REALLY did something about both of them.

And you may not like this but, the answers are:

  1. Better Health = More Exercise
  2. Money = Insurance  = Peace of Mind

That leads me directly to you, dear reader.

"How Money Works," my blog on Carrollwood.Patch.com, is about one of those topics they don't really teach you in school (others are "How to Stay Married" and "How to Raise Kids.") My Patch blogs will plain-talk about insurance, planning, goals, money and retirement.
