An August Assemblage of Events!

Some wag once proclaimed that in August, all of Europe goes on vacation! I can’t say whether that is true or not- if it is, more power to our European brethren in style. I do know that August, 2012 has certainly been an incredibly busy month. I thought it might be fun to run down what we’ve been doing.

First, there was the Tampa Bay Business Journal Business Woman of the Year Awards. This annual event is when the crème de la crème of Tampa Bay businesswomen get to strut their stuff. Fifty-two women were nominated in specific categories such as “Young Business” to “Entrepreneurial.” Twelve winners were named in each category, and then an overall winner was selected. This year’s big winner was Lily Gonzalez from Univision. The Salon was the hair and make-up sponsor for the event, and our stylists provided great glam looks for of the presenters. Congratulations to all the winners, and especially to Ms. Gonzalez!

On Saturday, the 18th, our style team did the hair and make-up for the holiday issue of Bay Pop, a magazine featuring profiles of Tampa Bay area celebrities and business leaders, front-facing fashion spreads and ‘wish you were there’ party pictures. Bay Pop shines a splendid spotlight on the Bay area culture and arts scene. It’s a ‘must-read’.

On Sunday, the 19th, we packed our bags for the Jason Ackerman Foundation’s 5th Annual Memorial Bowl-A-Thon. Held at the Pin Chasers parlor in West Tampa, this event kicked off with a 7-10 spilt competition, with open bowling afterwards. The grand prize was two 2012 Honda Ruckus Scooters complete with trailer! Here’s a picture of our team with one of the event’s celebrities, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Anthony Becht (in case you are confused, he’s the very tall gentleman in the back). Note also our extremely casual attire- de rigueur for any charitable bowling event. There is definitely no gutter trash here!

Speaking of de rigueur, on Tuesday, I was featured as a guest on WFLA Channel 8’s Daytime. Host Cyndi Edwards and I chatted about the hottest hairstyles for fall. If you watched the show, you are in the know; If you didn’t watch, why didn’t you? Daytime is an engaging and informative show, so program that DVR now. Whew! August has been busy! We worked hard, had some fun and even accomplished some good. Even though it’s been a hectic month, remember: At Darren Pena Salon and Spa, we are never too busy for you.
