Publix, Sweetbay Experiencing Problems With Debit Cards

A representative from Publix says that shoppers can use cash or credit cards.

If you're headed to a Publix Supermarket or other retailer this evening, you should make sure you have a credit card or cash in your wallet to pay for your merchandise.

"We apologize for the inconvenience our customers are experiencing with the pin pad machines not accepting debit, EBT and gift cards. We are experiencing technical difficulties with that system," said Publix spokesperson Shannon Patten in an email.

Patten suggests that customers check with each store before shopping by visiting the Publix store locator section of their website.

"Publix stores do accept credit cards and checks with proper identification or cash for their transaction," she said.

A spokesperson for Sweetbay Supermarkets confirmed that their machines were also experiencing "spotty" acceptence of debit cards. She said that Sweetbay hopes to have the issue fixed in a couple of hours.
