Photos: Lee Roy Selmon's Carrollwood Location Charity Night

The restaurant officially opened on Wednesday December 5.

Sports greats and lovers of the relaxed comfort food that Lee Roy Selmon's Restaurant has come to be known for united earlier this week to celebrate the opening of the new Carrollwood location.

A "Legends" wall was dedicated to several Tampa sports icons, including Lee Roy Selmon, Freddie Solomon, Eddie DeBartolo, Billy Turner, Vinny Testaverde, Lou Piniella, Wanda Guyton and Ronde Barber.

The Lee Roy Selmon's Restaurant company announced they would be partering with the University of South Florida to start a program helping student athletes.

Selmon, considered the best Tampa Bay Buccaneer player ever, went on to serve in many roles at USF. He served as the president of the USF Foundation Partnership for Athletics before his death in 2011.

Among the honorees was former Chamberlain High football coach Billy Turner. Turner, 75, is the most winning high school sports coach in Hillsborough County.

"I'm so excited. It really is an honor for him to be up there," said Tenille Turner, Turner's daughter. "It's a big deal."
