The Fourth Annual Peace Couture Fashion Event takes place Friday, Nov. 9 at the Italian Club in Ybor City.

I heard the words nail bar, fashion designers and Cointreau cocktails and was pretty much sold.

The Fourth Annual Peace Couture Fashion Event to benefit The Spring of Tampa Bay takes place on Friday, Nov. 9. It has a runway show, live music, artists and shopping. All proceeds benefit The Spring of Tampa Bay, which serves as the Hillsborough County-certified domestic violence center. The nonprofit agency serves women and children from all over the county, including Carrollwood and Northdale. It's also supported by donors countywide.

In the past four years, Peace Couture has grown to become a highly anticipated event for its unique take on domestic violence awareness.

"Domestic violence is kind of an uncomfortable subject for people to talk about," said Kurt Piazza, associate director of development for The Spring. "This is a positive, creative way to communicate the message of domestic violence and what we do."

The first Peace Couture was held at Saks Fifth Avenue in Tampa and then moved to Neiman Marcus. When Piazza began directing the event two years ago he decided to "bring it out of the department store context," he said.

"To show in the community we can do something a little more edgier and fun," Piazza added.

The Cuban Club was home to last year's event. The Italian Club was an easy choice for this year, Piazza said.

"It's elegant and and overlooks Seventh Avenue," he said.

This year's Peace Couture event will feature a Pop-Up Retail space, artists and live music. Zulu Wave and Guiltmaker are the featured musicians.
