Burrito Boarder Closes Its Doors

The restaurant was located next to World of Beer in the Carrollwood Village Shoppes plaza off north Dale Mabry

Another Carrollwood restaurant has shut its doors.

Burrito Boarder, which was located at 12908 N. Dale Mabry Highway in the Carrollwood Village Shoppes plaza, is boarded up with a "For Rent" sign posted on what used to be the casual Mexican restaurant's entrance.

The restaurant was next to Carrollwood's World of Beer, and was one of a handful of eateries that WOB patrons could order food from and have it delivered while they sat at the bar.

A call to a phone number on the "For Rent" sign wasn't returned on Monday.

What do you think about the closing of Burrito Boarder?

That was quick! They can't have been open more than 4-5 months.

More upset by the closure of Ruby Tuesday on Gunn. Never had the chance to try the Burrito Boarder.

@christopher: it was pretty fast! katy: yeah, i don't think a lot of people had a chance to go to Burrito Boarder, unfortunately.

And Tilted Kilt is also now closed.

In our 'Tampa area' economy, I'm always sorry to see any business close their doors. The ones that do not have long-standing in the area quite ofter are unable to "Weather" the long days that it takes business to build to profitability. Truly a sad situation, which hopefully can be changed in November. So, that's two this week? Burrito Border AND Tilted Kilt?

Unfortunate, but not surprised. We went a few times and loved the decor, but it was never crowded, and the food was not so great. Too much competition with Chipolte and Moe's so close with much better food.

I didn't realize Tilted Kilt closed down. Never had a chance to go, but it was on the to-do list. Have you all spotted any other closings? Let us know.

It was just a matter of time for Burrito Boarder. The food really was not that good.
Ann Adair May 29, 2012 at 03:51 PM
Tilted Kilt looks like it's relocating to a more premium location according to another Patch article.

I saw a post on Facebook from Burrito Boarder that they were relocating, too, but it didn't say where . . .
Camille C. Spencer May 29, 2012 at 05:40 PM
@Laura: I didn't know that. All we've heard is that they space where it once was is being rented. Will keep you posted if we hear an update!

So sad! I went there several times, and as recently as 2 weeks ago. The food was always fresh and delicious.

4-5 months, Then that’s the Burrito Boarder fault as even in economic good times as it can take 2-3 years to build clientele to become profitable so unless a place has capital to run at a loss for 12-16 months they should of not opened as it the reason 3 out of 4 new dining places close

As the former general manager, the reason for the store's closing was due to financial mismanagement by ownership. They didn't feel it was important to spend money on marketing and advertising, and it bit them in the butt big time. Disappointing, seeing as how they didn't even have the decency to inform the employees ahead of time.
David Hardingham July 15, 2012 at 06:37 PM
That also hurts as it can extend the time the place stays unprofitable as even with the best marketing is still very hard to turn a profit with in the first year and much less so in 4-5 months

I think a big problem in Carrollwood is that businesses particularly restaurants fall in love with the demographics but fail to consider there are 50 other places to eat within a 1 mile radius.
David Hardingham September 02, 2012 at 12:34 AM
Demographics do make a issue based on density but 50 on a mile radius is not too much as the area around it has much lower density which Carroll wood around the strip has as it. so in more important to be top of you class which is why I drive 12 miles round trip to go to O’Brian’s for the fish and chips. Or especially your style, As I drive to gulf port for classic French bistro food to La Cote Basque Winehouse as no place in Carroll wood or Tampa has a true French bistro type place which is top notch low cost French with items as true French non breaded frog legs and escargot. one of the biggest issue was it was Mexican which you can find all over Tampa just as common as a hamburger places and there both excellent hamburger places as well as Mexican places all over Tampa as well as good beer so mostly locals go to World of Beer or drive far for Mexican

We tried BB only one time. I think there has to be a finite amount of over-stuffed, not-so-memorable-in-the-taste-department pseudo-Mexican places that would be long term. Just being NOT Taco Bell probably isn't good enough to sustain traffic. If we want something along those lines, we're headed to the Taco Bus on E. Hillsborough.

this BB and the Cici's across the street in the bed bath and beyond center were owned by the same person.. such a shame.. he closed both

Passepartout had been a sort of vagrant in his early years, and now yearned for repose; but so far he had failed to find http://www.coachfactoryoutletstore2013.com it,
and the same system was applied to the http://www.michaelkorsbags2013outlet.com master's shoes. In short, the house in Saville Row, http://www.cheapcoachfactoryoutlet-online.com
People said that he http://www.shopcoachoutletonlinestore.com resembled Byron -- at least http://www.michaelkorsoutletstoreonlines.com that his head was Byronic; but he was a bearded, tranquil Byron,
