The show will be at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road.

This just in from the Carrollwood Cultural Center:

The Bay Area Saxophone Quartet (BASQ) will return to the Carrollwood Cultural Center on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m.

BASQ is a group of local musicians who have been performing throughout the Tampa Bay area for almost three decades. Members of the quartet include Jay B. Starkey (soprano saxophone), Jim Burge (tenor saxophone), Ted Hope (baritone saxophone) and Craig MacDougal (alto saxophone).

Starkey, founder of the Bay Area Saxophone Quartet, is a retired cattle rancher in Odessa who grew up in Largo. He has played saxophone since 5th grade and through college in concert and jazz bands. He has performed recitals in church and civic organizations and attended workshops and clinics for saxophone. His interest in the saxophone as a voice for serious music led him to organize the Bay Area Saxophone.

Burge, a retired Professor of Music at Hillsborough Community College, received his BME and Masters degrees at the University of Denver. His experience includes Las Vegas show bands, the Walt Disney World Band and the Florida Symphony. He is active as a performer and teacher in the Tampa area and co-conducts the FanFare Winds Band. Burge also hosts Jazz with Jim, a monthly program at the Carrollwood Cultural Center as well as leads the Sounds of Swing, a big band that also performs at the Center.

Hope is the Supervisor of Music for Middle and High Schools in the Hillsborough School District. He received an AA degree from Hillsborough Community College, a BME degree from FSU, and a MME degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He performs the baritone saxophone in recitals, wind ensembles and jazz bands.

MacDougal earned a B.A. in Music Education from the University of South Florida, with alto saxophone being his principal instrument. He spent 10 years as a full-time musician, playing in big bands and musical theater pit bands. Presently he is active in the Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church choir, orchestra and hand bells.  The BASQ concert will mark the first concert in the Center’s 2012-13 Classical Music Series. Other concerts include Music Reborn on November 3, Kimoni Duo on January 12 and Robin Spielberg on February 15.
