Patch: How did you get started as an artist?

Smith: I have wanted to be an artist since I was eight. That was when I got a paint by number set. At 17, I stopped painting for 20 years. When I started back, I knew full-time painting was for me. It took awhile. At age 59, I started painting full-time, 13 years ago.
