Patch: How did you get started as an artist?

Koehler
: Growing up, I had two passions - medicine and color.  After a very rewarding career in nursing, mothering and house-wifing, I was able to finally be the artist I thought I would be when I grew up.  Art is as vital to me as breathing.  It has been a great comfort to me during hard times and I now do pastel paintings for my own amazement.

Patch: Who or what influences you?

Koehler: I have been fascinated all my life by the impressionists and abstract artists. Now, my greatest influences are the fantastic teachers at the Life Enrichment Center.  They freely give instruction, encouragement, love and support. It is a wonderful experience to be a part of this "art" family.

Patch: What are misconceptions that people have about artists?

Koehler: I've always heard the expression, "starving artists." Most of the artists I have met are well educated, free spirited, loving people.  While it is very difficult to sell art in this economy, I have not met any that are "starving."

Patch: What do you think your art says about you?

Koehler: Art gives me the opportunity to let others see how I view the world.  Over the years, I have painted walls and cabinet doors really bright colors.  Now my body of work is extremely vibrant and colorful.  When I'm at work, it is almost a spiritual, transcendent experience. Time disappears.

Patch: Where can your art be seen?

Koehler: My work is currently for the month of June on display at the Life Enrichment Center. My grandson will soon be creating a website.
