"JOYFUL JAZZ FOR A WEARY WORLD" RICK GEE'S JAZZ JAMM

The Carrollwood Cultural Center and Rick Gee’s Jazz Jamm, Inc. presents “Joyful Jazz for a Weary World” featuring jazz bassist John Lamb, Lorri Hafer Jazz Group and pianist/vibraphonist Chuck Schlaich on Friday, April 6, 2012 at 7:30pm.

About John Lamb: Former Duke Ellington jazz bassist, John Lamb, has entertained audiences in the Tampa Bay area for more than 30 years. He is at home with classical music or jazz in any format including Swing, Traditional, Bebop or Dixieland. In 1952, he and the famous jazz pianist Red Garland performed as a jazz duo. During his tenure with Garland, he had the opportunity to sit-in and play with such jazz notables as Count Basie and Miles Davis. In 1964, he joined the legendary jazz artist Duke Ellington’s Orchestra where he played along side such outstanding jazz artists as Sam Woodyard and Louis Bellsom.

About Lorri Hafer Jazz Group: Lorri, Mike and Paul Hafer, a husband, wife and son vocalist, keyboard and bass/drums trio are known for their strong selections of the best of the Great American Songbook. Quite simply this very popular jazz family presents ‘the music of their lives’... featuring classic jazz standards of composers such as George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Harry Warren, the swinging songs of the Big Band Era, and loving tributes to great singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, and Billie Holiday. For more than 25 years Mike and Lorri have performed in concert throughout the US, in jazz festivals, on over half a dozen cruise lines, and in Europe. Added to her credits, Lorri was lead vocalist on the Hillside Singers version of the worldwide musical hit I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing in Perfect Harmony.

About Chuck Schlaich: Pianist and composer Chuck Schlaich is well known in the Tampa Bay area as the vibraphonist with The Dixie Chaps. He has toured with jazz icon Ira Sullivan, Jeff Hamilton, and the legendary jazz cornetist Nat Adderley. His latest CD includes two of his own original compositions, and showcases former Duke Ellington bassist John Lamb, drummer Chuck Redd, and local jazz guitarist Nate Najar.
