2ND ANNUAL BLESSING & A CURSE MUSIC FESTIVAL

Carrollwood Cultural Center is pleased to welcome back Have Gun, Will Travel for the 2nd Annual “Blessing & A Curse Music Festival”.  The Applebutter Express, a ukulele funk band, and singer/songwriter Dean Johanesen will be opening this year’s festival.

Florida’s HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL has been busy since the 2008 release of their debut full-length album, Casting Shadows Tall As Giants. The album garnered praise from national media outlets such as National Public Radio. “Their music has a great energy to it with some infectious, sing-along choruses and refrains,” commented NPR host Robin Hilton.

At Creative Loafing’s 2008 Best of the Bay Awards show held inTampa, HGWT took home the Readers’ Poll Award for Best Americana Act and Staff pick for Local CD of the Year. The album quickly became one of the most-played albums onTampa’s WMNF 88.5 fm. In early 2009 Casting Shadows… spent 2 months on the CMJ Top 200 college radio charts.

The album’s opening song “Blessing and a Curse” was chosen to appear on every episode of the 2009 season of PBS’s Roadtrip Nation.

With the release of their anxiously anticipated follow-up album Postcards from theFriendlyCity, HGWT have secured national distribution throughDenver,COindie label Suburban Home Records. The album debuted at #72 on the CMJ Radio Top 200 and moved to #56 within 3 weeks on the chart.

As a result of HGWT’s hard work and the national attention that it’s generated, the band recently took home the Critic’s Pick award for “Best Bay Area Breakout” in Creative Loafing’s 2010 Best of the Bay issue. While on their most recent national tour, HGWT received word that they’d won the Reader’s poll in the 2011 Creative Loafing Best of the Bay issue for Best Local Roots/Alt-Country Act.

HGWT’s third full-length album entitled “Mergers & Acquisitions” was released on November 1st, 2011, on Suburban Home Records, and is currently climbing the CMJ Top 200 radio charts.

Singer / Songwriter Dean Johanesen is the front man and songwriter for long timeTampaBay based group The Human Condition. Johanesen has been working to establish himself as a solo artist as well over the last year with a solo tour toEngland,New York andAtlanta in 2010, opening spots over the last number of years for such artists as Mason Jennings, Donovan Frankenreiter, Martha Wainwright, and more recently, John Waite, Bobby Long, Howard Jones and Steve Forbert.
