The new theatre company, named the Carrollwood Cultural Center MAS Community Theatre after the Center’s former Artistic Director, the late Mary Ann Scialdo, will focus on dramatic and comedic productions. The Center will also produce an annual musical combining the talents of the Center’s Broadway Kids, Community Chorus, and Community Band, a tradition that began with Scialdo.

“The idea was to continue the tradition that Mary Ann started and provide an opportunity for actors to participate in more dramatic and comedic roles, which will also give audience members something different to look forward to throughout the year,” Berg said.

MAS Theatre’s first production will be Neil Simon’s Come Blow Your Horn, a classic comedy chosen for its popularity.  It is scheduled to debut September 10 and run through September 18. Open auditions for the show will be held at the Center, located at 4537 Lowell Road in Tampa.

Come Blow Your Horn was Simon’s first play and debuted in the United States 1961. It is the story of two brothers, Buddy and Alan, and how their views on companionship transpose as one brother deals with heartbreak after falling in love while the other transforms into a ladies’ man.

Casting needs for the show include 3 males and 4 females and auditions are open to everyone. Calling ahead or reserving time slots is not necessary. Audition times will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
