Patch: How did you get your start as an artist?

Sperry: Expressing myself through art and music is something I’ve been involved in from an early age. It seems completely natural to be engaged in some form of creative effort, which really isn’t an effort at all. Whether playing an assortment of musical instruments, creating mixed media conglomerations, painting, or simply drawing, exercising my imagination has been an integral part of my existence.

Patch: Who or what influences you?

Sperry: A wide array of images, subject matter, and artistic styles influence me. The surrealist movement is of particular interest to me, as the style is underpinned with a commitment to the unconventional. I constantly experiment and strive to move in new directions. I am fortunate to have a friend who I consider a mentor - local artist Michael Braun.

Patch: What does your work say about you as a person?

Sperry: I hope my art reveals the higher consciousness I am dedicated to attaining. My desire is that people see in my art a sense of peace, tranquility, and adventure. If my art invigorates the viewer, I have been successful.

Patch: What are common misconceptions people have about artists?

Sperry: I can answer this with a phrase I have recited many times, and wholly believe. We are all artists, whether creating art or viewing it. Life is art, and is expressed in many forms.

Patch: How can people in Carrollwood see your work?

Sperry: A volume of my work can be experienced by viewing my website: http://mightysightstudio.com. Also, through February 2012, I am being featured in the Gallery at Carrollwood Cultural Center.
