Patch: How did you get your start as an artist?

Treiger: My love of art started as a young child, when I experimented with all art forms and crafts. As I got older, I decided to attend Moore College of Art, where I earned my BFA in photography.

I also won a traveling fellowship where I went to Paris on my summer break between my junior year and senior year.  I photographed every day in a different part of Paris, and can't wait to go back.  After graduating from Moore, I went on to get my MFA at Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  Getting my MFA lead the way to my life long love of educating students at the college level.

Patch: Who or what influences you?

Treiger: The photographic artists that had the most influence on me were Robert Doisenau, Henri Cartier Bresson, and Robert Frank.  Abstract expressionistic painters such as Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollak, and Jasper Johns were always my favorites.

Patch: What does your work say about you as a person?

Treiger:  I believe my work speaks about my love of abstract expressionism, and a love of the pinhole camera, and a questioning of styles and how can I make the ordinary extraordinary. I am simply a visual explorer of light and shape.  My world exists in the four edges of the frame of the camera. I extract what I need, an discard the rest.  The art is at that moment when I press the shutter.

I have many different styles through the 30 years I have been working as a photographic artist, and they all reflect events taking place in my life at that time.

Patch: What are common misconceptions people have about artists?

Treiger: Common misconceptions about artists are that they only have one style of working, Or if they are fine artists, they cannot have a commercial business.  I have just started a new business called The Art of Wedding Photography, which is a high end photojournalistic approach to your perfect day.  We are not there to pose groups, but to capture special moments and emotions that would probably be missed by another photographer.  You may see samples on Thumbtack.com, by searching our name.

Patch: How can people see your work?

Treiger: Please feel free to visit my web site at www.marciatreiger.com, or simply call me and we can arrange a studio visit.  This month, I have a show hanging in the Carrollwood Cultural Center that will be until the end of the month.
