The answer: Dale Mabry was a World War I aviator who died in 1922 while piloting the U.S. Army airship "Roma." He was the son of Florida Supreme Court Justice Milton H. Mabry.

The road that was named after Mabry was constructed to connect MacDill Air Force Base with Drew Field Municipal Airport. Other landmarks that bear his name are Dale Mabry Elementary in Tampa and Dale Mabry Municipal Airport in Tallahassee.
