Severe Thunderstorms Possible As Week Winds Down

The Carrollwood area could be in for more heavy afternoon storms this week similar to the July 30 formation that gave birth to a waterspout near Old Tampa Bay.

Carrollwood residents hoping for easy afternoon drives home the rest of the week might be out of luck.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook report for the entire Tampa Bay area that warns of the possibility of “isolated severe thunderstorms” in the afternoon hours July 31 that could bring with them frequent lightning, locally heavy rainfall and “straight line, damaging winds.”

The warning of potentially strong afternoon storms continues through most of the week.

Strong storms also moved through the area July 30. Some areas saw heavy rains and frequent lightning strikes. A waterspout was even spotted in Old Tampa Bay.

Storms aren’t the only weather-related tidbit Tampa Bay area residents might want to be mindful of either. Forecasters also anticipate some pretty steamy high temperatures.

Weather service meteorologist Richard Rude says highs Wednesday through Friday are likely to climb to about 90 along the coast and into the low 90s inland.
