Residents Turn Out for Road Rally Against Floyd Road Development

A private developer wants to build a Walmart and Wawa convenience store in the area.

During Wednesday morning rush hour, they donned red shirts and held signs while drivers made their way down Dale Mabry for their commutes to work and school.

Their purpose: Proclaiming their opposition to a rezoning project.

Members of 813CARe, a grass roots organization that stands for Carrollwood Against Rezoning, organized their first road rally this morning to voice their concerns about the rezoning of commercial space by a Florida-based development company called Brightwork to build a Walmart and Wawa convenience store on the northwest corner of Floyd Road.

Road rallies are planned for every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning until an Oct. 15 rezoning hearing on the project. Members of 813CARe want people to write opposition letters and attend the hearing, which will be held at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the county building.

Did you attend today's road rally, or see members of 813CARe this morning? Tell us in the comments.

Yes I saw them on my way to work. The traffic was so bad that morning and they picked a great day to be out there and remind us that it will get worse with this rezoing.

Walmart's attempt to put stores at this location constitute excessive economic penetration of an area and unfair conpetition. With 2 Walmarts and a Sam's Club within easy driving distance, to allow further Walmart penetration would dramatically hurt local businesses. Tell the County Commission to DISAPPROVE the Walmart rezoning request!!!
