Patch features five great restaurants and chefs that have been featured in Bites Nearby.

For this week’s picks, Patch dug through the archives to spotlight the top restaurants and chefs featured in the column Bites Nearby. If you haven’t tried any of these delights yet, be sure to come hungry.

  1. , 11606 N. Dale Mabry Highway – Owners Sally and Peter Ballas have been busy making their deli an institution in Carrollwood. This eatery has been around since 1997, and has served up the same trifecta of soups, salads and sandwiches , but it’s the quality and ingredients which make their dishes stand out. If you’re looking for a stand out try the Powerhouse which is turkey breast, gooey farmhouse cheddar and bacon on a Kaiser roll.
  2. , 11702 N. Dale Mabry Highway – Traditionally known for its breakfast items, Mimi’s also has lunch and dinner which are worth sticking around for. Try the French onion soup if you crave something hearty, sumptuous and comforting.
  3. – 5358 W. Village Drive – Tampa is a melting pot of various cultures which lends itself to international cuisine on every corner.  Terra Sur serves up Peruvian food which co-owner Yannina Rivas said uses lots of seafood and spices. Stir-frys and ceviche are the most popular menu items.
  4. , 17623 N. Dale Mabry Highway – Chef Rand Packer started Mekenita’s  over three years ago . What sets this restaurant apart is that everything is made in-house. Menu items such as the sangria soaks for three days before it’s served to thirsty guests.
  5. , 13248 N. Dale Mabry Highway – Jasmine Thai has been a part of the Carrollwood community for nearly 30 years. The cuisine treats the palate to the tropical tastes of coconut milk, seafood, curries and peanuts.
