Is Speeding in Carrollwood Village a Problem?

Some concerns have been raised about traffic along South Village Drive.

New signs warning motorists along South Village Drive of the potential for pedestrian traffic haven’t done much to slow the speed of drivers moving through the area.

That’s the contention of some as they say traffic along South Village Drive continues to move too fast, causing a potential hazard for those on foot.

In an article written for Village Views, Carrollwood Village resident Frank Phelan said Hillsborough County hasn’t gone far enough to curb the speed of drivers along the roadway, which serves as a major artery into and out of the community.

“Observation and timing has indicated that some vehicles are moving at sixty or more miles per hour, traveling east to west, when they arrive at the Carrollwood Village Run intersection,” Phelan said in the article, which can be read here.

While crosswalks are in place and the new pedestrian right-of-way signs have been installed, Phelan said more action is needed to get drivers to lower their speeds through the area.
