'Hoops for Soup' Fundraiser to Benefit Local Charity

Event to be held on March 19; money raised will be for a local soup kitchen

If you're already on the hunt for a bracket to fill out for March Madness, "Hoops for Soup" might be up your alley.

The free event, sponsored by at 11511 N. Dale Mabry Highway, will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 in the store's parking lot.

Free food samples will be available throughout the day during a competition that will allow anyone who stops by to raise money for Hope House Soup Kitchen, a non-profit that serves needy families, said Jeremy Bakken, spokesman for GFS.

Here's how the event will work:

A basketball hoop will be set up in the store's parking lot. The cost is $3 for seven shots or $1 for two shots. If you make a basket, your name will be put into a drawing for a chance to win prizes, including gift cards, a basketball hoop and ball, products or a $500 gift card. All proceeds go to Hope House.

Bakken said the idea for the event, which is in its first year, came from corporate officials at GFS who were looking for a way to establish the store and get involved in the community.

"This is an interesting way to get involved in the community," he said. "And, people can check out the store, since it's a fairly new location."

Don't have time to shoot hoops? Donations will also be accepted for Hope House during the event.
