Camp IDS REGISTRATION: Where Everyone Has a Good Time!

Camp IDS: Where Everyone Has a Good Time!

Independent Day School’s Summer Camp attracts hundreds of students in grades PreK3-12 who are looking to explore new interests, have fun on the playing field, express themselves creatively, enhance their academics ‑ or do all of the above.

From broadcasting to basketball to band. Rocketry to robots. Making movies to math magic.

For the 15th consecutive summer, Independent Day School-Corbett Campus will host one of the largest summer camps in the Tampa Bay area. Divided into seven weekly sessions from June 13 to July 29, Camp IDS 2011 will offer more than 70 different full-day
and half-day camps in a broad array of fields – academic, communications and technology, performing arts, visual arts, recreation and sports.

“Camp IDS has been providing something for everyone from prekindergarten through high school for many years,” said Independent Day School’s Garret Jagdmann who co-directs the camp with IDS teacher Stephen Shoe. “Our extensive experience, combined with our highly trained staff of teachers and camp counselors, ensures that every camper has a great time.”

While many campers each year participate in traditional sports camps such as soccer, volleyball and archery, children with special interests or those looking for something new can choose disc golf,
filmography, CSI IDS, Chinese kids’ games or matball to name just a few. Fine arts camps in drama, band, dance, photography, and painting complement other creative endeavors in cooking, newspaper reporting, broadcasting and computers.

“Campers can gain new knowledge about great literature
in the morning and become a LEGO engineer in the afternoon. They can dabble in new painting mediums, sing on stage, or bake a dessert every day to bring home,” said Jadgmann.

“What’s been great about Camp IDS is that the children can choose what they really want to do,” said Shoe. “The wide selection of camps exposes children to new things that they might not normally
know much about, and offers them an opportunity to expand their interests in a positive and supportive environment.”

A “Wilderness Extreme” camp for fifth through eighth graders, for example, includes hiking, mountain biking, snorkeling, canoeing
and inline skating. An “Adventure Camp” for grades 3 through 5 takes children to a variety of attractions around the Tampa
Bay area.

“Our teachers and counselors love what they do and
that fun and positive attitude permeates the entire camp,” said Dr. Joyce Burick Swarzman, headmaster of Independent Day
School-Corbett Campus. “It’s just a great, upbeat and exciting time for a summer blast!”
