Sweetbay Awards Scholarships

Sweetbay Supermarket is pleased to announce four outstanding recipients of the 2013 Sweetbay Endowed Scholarship Fund for Excellence.

Amanda Chillura, 23, of Valrico; Courtney Demboski, of Gibsonton; Robert R. Simpson, 22, of Dade City; and Roman Stickles, 20, of Tampa will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to the University of South Florida to help defray the costs of their college degrees.

The Sweetbay Endowed Scholarship Fund for Excellence recognizes and rewards Sweetbay employees and their family members who have maintained distinguished academic records and have served their communities and schools.

Scholarship recipients are judged on several criteria, including academic record, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience and financial need.

Stickles, a Gaither High School graduate, wants to work for the Centers for Disease Control and has a love of science.

Chillura, a Durant High School graduate, works as a Sweetbay customer service associate and plans to become a pharmacist.

After earning his diploma from Zephyhills High School, Simpson is studying marine biology and environmental science so that he can ensure the wonderful environment in our state continues to thrive.

 “The academic and community accomplishments of these students clearly stood out,” said Nicole LeBeau, Sweetbay spokeswoman. “We’re pleased to not only call them employees, but to be able to assist them in their educational endeavors.”
