Whiskey Park North Shooting: What People Are Saying

The shooting occurred on Saturday morning at the Carrollwood bar.

Early Saturday morning, one man was fatally shot and an unidentified individual was treated and released from a local hospital after an incident at Whiskey Park North, a Carrollwood bar.

Authorities say Pablo Bonilla, 23, got into an argument around 1 a.m. with Jordan Lee McKenna, 27, inside the club at 11921 N. Dale Mabry Highway. The argument occurred because Bonilla saw McKenna talking to his girlfriend, authorities said.

A few hours later, while Bonilla, his girlfriend and others were getting into their vehicles, a blue Dodge Charger driven by McKenna stopped next to them. An unknown white man got out of the car and fired shots, hitting Bonilla and the unidentified victim.

Bonilla later died, and the second victim was treated and released from St. Joseph's Hospital. Authorities arrested McKenna and charged him with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder. Authorities are searching for the shooter in the ongoing investigation.

On Saturday, club patrons and Tampa Bay residents talked about the shooting on Twitter, where the words "Whiskey Park North" had become a trending topic. Here are some excerpts:

  • "Whiskey Park North Bar trending on twitter??? Like there were no other club shootings in America last night?" - @holdingmyown
  • "Whiskey Park North Bar shooting leave one dead ... smh that's a shame and they say it only happens in ybor" - @FLACHICK84
  • 'Whiskey Park North Bar' is trending in the Bay area because of this deadly shooting" - @MicahGrimesBN9
  • "How the heck did Whiskey Park North Bar make twitters trending topics?" - @Thecellxchange

Club patrons: Do you plan to head to the club this week, or has the shooting caused you to think twice?

He isn't a low-life dirt bag! He just got mixed in the wrong crowd of people. Innocent until proven guilty!

Haven't been there for a while, it used to be very nice a few years ago but the last time I was there a dude suffering from Napoleon complex thought I was looking at him some kind of way and stepped to me, I had no clue what was going on... only when the restroom assitant and another guy told him.... " hey not him" then I realise he had been in some altercation with some other patrons.. I'm 6'-3" and 230 lb athletic built and he's about 5' something, if so much... all I did was laugh and went about my way.

The shooter then got back into McKenna's vehicle and both men fled the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
so what would you call McKenna for assisting in an unjustifyed murder
as you have a choice in the crounds you hang with

The story says that McKenna was charged with being an accessory after the fact. Unless we are not being given all of the facts, I would consider McKenna an accomplice and believe that he should stand trial for the same crimes that the shooter is charged with having committed.

My husband and I go often since we live close by- been going for 6 years. I'm not letting one isolated instance keep me from going back.

@ Elizabeth- He got mixed up in the wrong crowd? He was the 1 talking to another mans girlfriend. He is the 1 who got into an argument. He is the 1 who was driving the car & could have driven away from any further altercations...but chose not to. Seeing how it was his car, I bet it was his gun! It doesn't make any since why this happened & why so many lives will be changed forever, but it is very clear that the driver is far from innocent!!!!!!!!!!! You know who is innocent... the people who don't hang out at sleazy bars...who do everything they are supposed to do, but because of other peoples stupid decisions their lives have completely fallen apart!

Sleazy bars??? Really? I wouldn't consider Whiskey North a sleazy bar at all. IMO, those are located by the Bucs stadium. I'm a mom of 4 and love WN. My heart goes out to all those affected by this tragedy but to bad mouth an upscale establishment doesn't help things at all. People make bad choices and must suffer the consequences.
