Romney Energizes Bay Area Crowd

Gov. Mitt Romney spoke about the need for change during his Oct. 27 rally in Pasco County's Land O' Lakes.

Many of those who filled the bleachers and field at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's rally might say it was the winds of change blowing through the Land O' Lakes High School stadium Saturday.

A cool breeze made the hours-long wait for the Republican presidential candidate's appearance a pleasant one.

People from all over the Bay area and beyond began lining up as early as 2 p.m. to enter the John Benedetto Stadium for Romney's evening appearance.

Saturday was the first day of early voting, and many in the crowd affirmed that they had indeed already voted when asked by Congressman Connie Mack, who introduced Romney to the packed stadium.

He didn’t miss the opportunity to stump for his own campaign for Senate against Democrat Bill Nelson.

“Senator Nelson was the deciding vote for ObamaCare,” Mack said, drawing a "boo" from the crowd.

Those boos for President Barack Obama turned to cheers as Romney took the stage; the crowd packed tightly around his podium in the center of the field.  Most held their phones in the air, snapping photos and video of the presidential hopeful.

Many who weren’t holding phones up had their children on their shoulders to get a better view of what many in attendance felt was a historic moment.

“When we win Florida, we’re going to win the White House,” Romnney told the cheering crowd, drawing chants of “Mitt, Mitt, Mitt” in response.

At President Obama’s rallies, they chant “Four more years,” Romney said. His rally’s chant would be “Ten more days,” he said, joking later they would have to change that tomorrow.

Romney touched on a little bit of everything in his speech, which lasted about 25 minutes: ObamaCare, jobs, small business, education and energy independence among them.

There’s a big cloud hanging over small business right now: ObamaCare,” he said. “We’re going to remove that.”

He also reiterated his disdain for teacher’s unions.

President Obama gets his largest contributions from teachers unions, which oppose school choice, Romney said.

“I want every parent to have the choice of where their child attends school,” he said.

Kids, parents and teachers need to come first, Romney said. “And the union is going to have to go behind.”

Romney also talked numbers: 23 million people out of work, 47 million on food stamps, 2 percent growth rate for the economy.

“If I,” Romney started to say, before stopping to correct himself.

“When I become president,” he said, then paused as chants of “10 more days” erupted from the crowd.

“I will put the interests of the people ahead of the politicians,” he said.

Obama said recently that he can’t change politics from the inside, only from the outside, Romney said.

“We’re gonna give him that chance soon.”

Mitt Romney is following Karl Rove's advice that if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. For low information voters who have not followed the Romney campaign, most of Romney's statements today contradict what he was saying only a few months ago. Only recently, Romney stated his contempt for 47% of the population, he stated that he will close down Planned Parenthood, abolish women's abortion rights, turn Medicare into a voucher, give more tax cuts for millionaires, eliminate middle class tax deductions, reduce funding for schools, increase military spending by 2 trillion dollars, remove regulations for greedy Wall Street bankers, and eliminate the middle class safety net. Since most of Romney advisors are from the failed Bush administration, a President Romney will be just like returning George W. Bush back to the White House.

That last sentence you said was perfect. You real thought the bush administration had failed, you must be blind. After 9-11 when our economy just stopped dead in its track he grew it back up and it was doing 10 fold better than it is today. And Romney didn't state he was going to close down planned parenthood he just said he was going to stop the wasteful government spending.

Anthony,
yes Bush did innvigorate business, which opening up an already bad credit legislation. Businesses borrowing money that wasn't there and they became bad loans. So yes in he did grow business on a bad foundation, which was part of the straw on the camels back for the crash of 2008. On your second point, yes, Romney has said at multiple stops he would like to close Planned Parenthood. He has been recorded as saying it, but it was mostly during his run to be the Republican candidate.

The fact checkers have demonstrated that Mitt Romney's claim to add 12 million jobs in his first term just does not add up. Neither does Romney's claim that he can balance the budget by promising not to raise taxes on anybody, lowering taxes on the wealthy by eliminating all capital gains taxes on investment income, while simultaneously increasing military spending by two trillion dollars. For someone who claims to be a great businessman, his math skills appear to be very poor and his numbers make no sense. Mitt Romney lies with his numbers, he lies about his social agenda, and he lies about moving this country forward. The only thing that Mitt Romney will achieve as president will be to make the rich even richer and the poor even poorer. Romney will give the large corporate interests who financed his campaign more tax breaks, less regulation, more military spending, and he will gut middle class programs to pay for everything.

Supposing that, by some terrible luck, Romney wins, I'd love to have the chance in four years to round up all the Patch folks who have supported him and ask, "Well, how'd that go for you? You are poorer (unless you make over $250,000 a year); you have no health care (unless you're on Medicare, and now spending between $4200 and $16,400 a year for drugs that used to be free); the deficit is nowhere as low as Romney promised it would be; we're now at war in three more countries; and your taxes have risen to take care of the 20% tax cut he's given to the rich. Unfortunately, by that time, all the voters who supported him will have their own version of "Romnesia:" "Oh, I don't remember who I voted for...

Anthony P., Are you denying that the Bush administration was a failed administration? If it was so successful, why is the Republican Party hiding Bush during this Presidential election. How come Bush hasn't even made one campaign appearance with Romney during this whole campaign? Bush was even absent at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. Please explain the reason for this if the Bush Administration was as successful as you claim. The Democrats are very proud of the last Democratic Administration. Bill Clinton was a speaker at the Democratic National Covention and he campaigns frequently with Pres. Obama. Clinton is a very big hit with the public. The scariest thought for me is that the inexperienced Romney has mainly ex-President Bush advisors to give him direction. This will probably mean another unfunded war in Iran that will be fought by the poor and middle class kids. Romney hid out in France during the Vietnam War and none of his five sons have served in the military. Their fundamental belief seems to be that only the poor people have to die fighting for their country.

According to the latest Tampa Bay Times survey of 120 of Florida’s top political insiders, 73 percent expect Romney will win Florida, compared to just 27 percent who think President Barack Obama will win the state a second time.

But even among Democrats, 60 percent think Romney will carry Florida. Republicans are more certain: 95 percent believe Romney will win the state’s 29 electoral votes.

Today's Associated Press projections for the presidential election state that Pres. Obama will most likely win with at least 271 electoral votes from 21 states, including Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa, and the District of Columbia. Romney seems on track to win only 206 electoral votes from 23 states. The electoral vote projections show that Pres. Obama is the favorite to become the next President of the United States, not Mitt Romney.

If you lived there, you wouldn't have to worry at all about "liberals" in the government arguing for equal rights for women, equal pay for women, reproductive rights for women, women's freedom from having to wear restrictive clothing, equal rights in court cases involving divorce or inheritance, or even the separation of church and state. If you can't stand living in the U.S. for four more years with "liberals" running the government, remember there are many countries in the Middle East and elsewhere where you won't find any "liberals" there to bother you.

How to explain facts to a fool who overdosed on Koolaid;
If you are able to read, here's facts on how Obama signing the Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act, otherwise known as the ‘Kerry-Lugar-Berman Bill,’ a five-year, $7.5 billion aid package to Pakistan is assured, along with a promise of more to come. ‘It includes language proposing a subsequent tranche of $7.5 billion of aid for 2015 to 2019. There is yet more money for Pakistan in the 2010 defense budget. The Kerry-Lugar-Berman aid comes on top of the more than $15 billion the United States has given Pakistan since 2001, of which more than $10 billion has been military aid.
Lynda you can read the rest in this link http://trendsupdates.com/the-united-states-%E2%80%9Cenhanced-partnership-with-pakistan-act%E2%80%9D-massive-aid-tough-love-tall-order/

That must be because the private power companies in the NE did such a good job retstoring the outages during Irene. Tonight, his spokesperson said what Gov. Romney really meant was the Federal Gov. should be sure the states had all the resources they needed. I love people who believe Gov Romney has any position he can keep for more then 2 minutes. I have literally not seen even one. This state is filled with liberals, many of whom are friends of mine, and they are discouraged, unmotivated, and more than a little chagrined at our President's incomparably dreadful term of office. Many have become dissilusioned and simply will not vote. He will take this state, of course, but he will win neither Florida nor Ohio, nor Virginia or North Carolina, nor even New Hampshire or Minnesota. It's over. Romney will win this in a walk and the media will act positively shocked even though there have been signs everywhere of this eventuality since the historic midterm elections of 2010.

After a loud round of laughter the 12 concluded they were going to vote for President Obama. The reasons varied from lying to his pledge to take away birth control but all were sound logical reasons based on his record in office and private business. A little back ground, at the table 2 were Baptist, 3 Catholic, 2 Church of God, 4 Methodist and 1 Atheist. 1 was Black, 1 Cuban, 10 White. All went to Land O Lakes High school, 11 married, 1 gay. Yes Michael there are extremes on both sides however most of these personal attacks not all was directed at me, I didn't deserve it, I am a decent & honest citizen, at the risk of certain people gloating, I have feelings & I have cried especially at being called a racist & paranoid schizo, I am sure you will agree that it is cruel & uncalled for!

when it comes to name calling it is never called for. The labeling on both sides is pretty ridiculous.

Hey Michael, you remember the post on Laundry Mat in Dunedin, I signed up with Patch during that post, when I read about the sign, I felt the wording was crude, my view is 2 wrongs don't make a right, foul language has no place in any conversation & that goes for all sides!

Anti-liberal,
Help me out to understand something..why will Republican policies work for Romney if they did not work for Bush?

Who is WILLIAM BINNEY?

Romney's version of "Change" is recycling the same NEOcon rinos back into the power structure. Have you seen his proposed cabinet? It mirrors the Bush one............yep, that's some change we are going to get......right back to the insanity of the previous regime.

But hey, it's been working so well for decades now, might as well continue to play the back and forth game with the same two parties.

Yep, the people want change all right......to bad the voting masses continue to support the duopoly.

that won't change until another entity gains enough money to get into the game. Which we have yet to see.

Gary Johnson garners 5% of the national vote and the Libertarian party will have more funds than ever.......of course it will somewhat force them to violate the principles they espouse.

I want Revolutionary change.......not this scratch the surface mumbo jumbo. Deal with the Federal Reserve, Foreign Policy, Entitlements, Civil Rights. Real changes isn't being offered by any of these puppets.

You saw what happened when a 3rd person did have enough money......they changed the way candidates are allowed into the debates. Had Perot not done so well, Johnson would be in the debates right now, but they changed the rules...........sorta the same way the RNC changed their rules to put a halt to grass root movements like Dr. Ron Pauls. FYI: under the new rules, Reagan wouldn't have been President. But hey, that's Freedom in America.
(there's rumors Perot and his family were threatened, hence his withdrawal).
If only the people listened to Perot...........just like people should be listening to Dr. Paul)

The 5% is what I was referring to. There needs to be multiple voices to actually represent the social culture in this country. Currently we have two sides of the same coin. Seperated by minor differences.

The majority of the Romney supporters at his rallies are angry older white voters who have federal Medicare coverage for their health insurance and are receiving Social Security checks from the government. Ironically, they are very angry that Pres. Obama has supported universal health care for all Americans. They are also angry that the federal government sends out checks to other Americans such as poor people who need food and housing assistance. These Romney supporters don't seem to mind that the federal government also greatly assists all American businesses with numerous business tax deductions, government loans, government subsidies, government bailout money, protections under the federal bankruptcy laws, and numerous other state and federal tax breaks. In addition, the current generation of retirees on average will receive much more in Social Security and Medicare benefits than they paid in in federal taxes during their working years. Many of these Romney supporters seem to have no problem receiving government benefits or having our corporations receive these benefits. However, if poor people get government benefits, these people are lazy deadbeats getting benefits because we have a "socialist" president redistributing the country's wealth.

Lynda, my liberal friends are the ones talking to me. I need not seek out political conversation in this state, it's everywhere, and people are in deep distress over their political leanings vs common sense being diametrically opposed. There minds are blown. I know union guys that have been laid off for 2 years and they are going to vote for Elizabeth Warren, but they'll be damned if they get sucked into voting for an imcompetent snake-oil salesman again. And they are not shy about letting their opinions known. Nobody believes a word that comes out of the President's mouth anymore. As far as your random comment of "knowing people like me", which sounds dangerously close to "you people" a phrase that "tolerant" liberals foam at that mouth when they hear, I have nothing to add to that.

There are those "tolerant" people on both sides Bob. Romney is just as much of a "snake-oil" salesmen. Both candidates will say what their focus groups tell them to in order to get elected.

I will not dispute what you say, Mike, except to point out that this is what has been getting people elected since Andrew Jackson won his first term. James Michael Curley springs to the mind of this Bostonian. But both of these consumate politicians had accomplishments popular amongst the electorate to point to as viable reasons to pull the lever on their behalf again. Not the case here. And I agree with euphemizing "tolerant".

Bob,
I think this statement you made is where I have the problem "This is what has been getting people elected". Very valid point, the candidate who has spent the most money campaign has won the last 80 years at least. What does that say about our voting public that we are easily swayed by candidates who will change their tune on a dime. Because of their focus groups. Why do we only hear two voices as well? Are we to truly believe that only 2 men represent what 312.8 Million People? No other voices are out there?

Thanks, Michael, but I have no interest in breaking down the inadequacies of the two-party system, nor in denigrating the intelligence of the American voter. It is, however, quite interesting that both of these, uh, "issues", seem to be of paramount importance to you a mere week before an election that is clearly slipping through the incumbant's fingers.

Bob,
Check my history, I have been saying it for months. Even on the debate boards asking why another voice isn't being heard. As I have said multiple times over the last few months, I don't find either of these two candidates speaking for me.
