Find out details about the upcoming show.
The Carrollwood Cultural Center announced new dates for its monthly jazz program, Jazz with Jim.
Host Jim Burge and The Jazz Directions will perform at the Center, located at 4537 Lowell Road in Tampa, September 21, October 19, November 16 and December 14. All concerts will be at 7:30 pm, and tickets range from $12 to $18 per person. Members can purchase a Jazz with Jim package, which includes admission to all four concerts, for $40.
On December 14, Burge and The Jazz Directions will welcome special guests Jordan Sanders Hawkins and Cole Hazlitt. Hawkins is a junior at Braden River High School in Bradenton where he is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned Outstanding Jazz Musician as a sophomore and a junior. He is a guest musician and singer with the Soul Sensations of Sarasota in their Motown Review.
Hawkins just completed a summer program at Berklee College of Music in Boston and hopes to attend there after graduation. Hazlitt is enrolled in the music program at Tarpon Springs High School and plays vibes (vibraphone) and drums with the Ruth Eckerd Youth Jazz Band. Jazz with Jim is best known for fusing personal stories with popular jazz tunes suited for that month's theme.
In addition to the personal stories, patrons can purchase home baked goods donated by the Center's volunteers, which help complete the intimate ambience. Guest musicians for September 21, October 19 and November 16 have yet to be determined.
