Foreign Language Classes At Cultural Center

This summer, lovers of language will be able to gain new knowledge at the Carrollwood Cultural Center.

The center, located at 4537 Lowell Road, will start offering Spanish and Italian classes. 

Instructed by Robert Creighton, the new language classes, are a part of the center's Spring and Summer offerings. The Spring/Summer 2013 class catalog was recently released.

This isn't the center's first time offering foreign language classes.

"The center ran a few language classes several years ago, but they faded away," said Adrienne Hutelmyer, a spokesperson for the center.
"Since then, our patrons have been asking us to add foreign language classes, and we've just been looking for the right instructor."

Creighton recently approached the center and was a good fit, Hutelmyer said.

Each class offers an introduction to the basics of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of the Italian and Spanish language. Students will learn to formulate basic speech and sentence compositions and apply relevant vocabulary and grammatical structures.

The cost is $67.50 to $75 for a six week course.

More foreign language classes could be offered in the future.

"We are definitely looking forward to adding more foreign languages to the mix," Hutelmyer said. "We encourage anyone who is interested in teaching a class to submit a cover letter and resume to our education director, Helen Michaelson at helen@carrollwoodcenter.org."

Interested students are invited to the center for an open house and class preview at 6:30p.m. on Thursday, April 4. Instructors will be available to answer questions. In addition, students who register for a class at the open house will receive 5 percent off their tuition.
