Carrollwood Relay for Life Seeks Supporters
Community members who want to get involved are invited to attend a committee rally today for Relay for Life.
Last year, Relay for Life of Carrollwood raised $58,000 for the American Cancer Society.
This year, the goal is $75,000.
To get things off the ground for the next Relay for Life on May 3 and 4 of 2013, organizers are hosting a committee rally from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Sept. 6) at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road.
Anyone interested in joining this year's committee is invited come, said Kristin Rink Votta, team development chair and owner of Fitness-Tek Personal Training Studio.
Funds raised allow the American Cancer Society to buy wigs for cancer patients, among other uses, she said.
"This is for people who have no idea what it is and want to find out how to make a difference," said Rink Votta, also a member of the Carrollwood Area Business Association.
Relay for Life is a team-based event that supports people who have battled cancer through events that include a luminaria ceremony, food, games, and a survivors lap around the school track.
Rink Votta said anyone who wants to start a team or knows survivors can attend tonight's meeting.
"It's a rare thing to not have your life touched by cancer, whether it's a friend or family member," she said. "Together, we can make the biggest difference."
