Staying inside if possible may not be a bad plan through the week as temperatures rise even higher than their summertime normal the next few afternoons.

The weather pattern is familiar for the summer, said National Weather Service meteorologist Nicole Carlisle.

Afternoon temperatures could creep to around 95 or 96 degrees in northeast Hillsborough and central Pasco counties.

Toss in the soaring humidity and afternoons will feel like close to 100 degrees away from the coast, forecasters said. The heat index will make it feel like more than 95 before noon for the New Tampa area and all of northwest Hillsborough and Land O’ Lakes in central Pasco.

New Port Richey could benefit from its location near the Gulf of Mexico and stay a few degrees cooler, though still in the low 90s with the heat index nudging to the high end of the 90s.

The only break will be where the afternoon thunderstorms travel to cool things down.

“If you don’t see any rain, depending on where you are, temperatures will be in the high 90s,” Carlisle said.

And as if it wasn’t humid enough, more moisture should move in by Tuesday and Wednesday, driving rain chances up another notch.

For Tuesday, folks near the coast stand a better chance of seeing some rain than people from around Interstate 75 and east, forecasters said.

By Wednesday and through the rest of the week, rain chances go up to the 50 percent range or higher just about everywhere.

The extra clouds, though, may keep temperatures down to the lower 90s by the last couple days of the workweek.

Winds up in the atmosphere will be light and storms won’t move much once they form, Carlisle said.

That means they could dump plenty of rain.
